Meet your Presenter:

Mike Oliver

San Diego East County Economic Development Council

With thirty years of experience in information technology, Mike Olivier brings his expertise to system engineering and information systems planning.  With experience in managing and developing programs and systems for the US Federal Government as a prime contractor and subcontractor, he understands the engineering processes’ demands and requirements.  His system engineering experience includes providing system engineering support in developing the security model for the US Navy, NIWC – San Diego, Advance Container Security Device, and the system architecture for wireless data collection networks used in transportation systems.  In addition to manufacturing process system engineering and developing a first responder emergency management network, to name a few.  Since 2016 he has been actively developing policy templates and compliance documentation for NIST SP 800-171.  He has produced a number of webinars and assisted companies in meeting the NIST SP 800-171 compliance requirements.  This experience in system engineering planning and system security compliance in commercial and Federal systems has laid the foundation for a commonsense approach to designing and developing secure complex systems.  

In addition, he served as an active and reserve officer in the United States Marine Corps.  He served as an operational planner for the I (First) Marine Expeditionary Force (IMEF) in Iraq.  He is the author of several articles focusing on cybersecurity,  system engineering, and project management.  He is a Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Registered Practitioner (RP) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI). He has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Science in Cybersecurity (MSCS) from National University, San Diego, CA.
